Working from home is something we’ve all dreamed of. You know, being your own boss, being able to make your own schedule, work your own hours. On the other hand working from home can be a double-edge sword, it can be hard to be and stay productive sometimes with all the distractions at home. It can be a tricky thing when you don’t find a good balance between work and fun, attending a webinar or watching Netflix. I’ve been self-employed for a couple of years now, I learned a great deal about self-discipline, and today I would like to share some of my personal tips for staying productive when working from home.

Wake up and get dress for success

When you’re home I know it can be tempting to sleep late and spend all day sitting around in your pj’s. Can be fun for a couple of day, but on the long run it won’t be really beneficial for your self-esteem and productivity. Make a point to wake up early every day (or on week days)have a good morning routine, take a shower, have a good breakfast, and GET DRESS! You’ll see It really does put you in a different mindset for your day. This process make me feel more put together, and it might be a bit silly but it helps me to separate when I’m working, from I’m comfy and chilling.

Keep Your Workspace and Personal Space Separate

Don’t get into the habit of working from your bed.When you have your designated work space it is almost become your little office within your home. When you walk into that space you subconsciously know that you are ready for work and nothing else, and when you’re stepping out of that zone you know that your work day is done and you can enjoy your usual activities.

Have a working schedule

Like any regular job, there’s a time to work, there’s a time to eat, and there’s a time to take breaks. I don’t know if you’re like me but when I’m really focus on something I often forget to eat, which can be pretty ad for my health. Having a work schedule that includes 10-15 minutes breaks and a lunch time can help you stay sharp and focus troughs out the day. I schedule an alarm for my breaks and lunch time on my phone just to make sure I don’t miss them.

Turn off all distractions, like social media and emails (or Netflix). Check those things during your break times. And like every regular job, any work days have an end. If you have the greatest idea for a blog post, or any project your working on, write down the basics on a post-it, you’ll work on it tomorrow.

Plan out what you’ll be working on ahead of time

Being productive during your workday takes some planning. So either early in the morning, or the night before, make a list of all your to-dos. Having a list in front of you can keep you on point, focused, and increase productivity. And is there something more satisfying than crossing off a task from your list! Don’t stop working if it’s a hard day

As a blogger there’s times when I have major writers block (if you do too this might help), and it’s hard to stay productive when those times come. When it happens do some work anyway. Maybe your blog need a maintenance update, schedule tweets or pictures on IG, do administrative work, etc. the important thing here is to stay busy.
