What you need to do before hitting publish

Let’s talk about what blogger need to do before they hit that publish button shall we! I don’t know about you, but sometimes I’m working on a post, I think everything is ready for me to publish it to the world, but because I’m tired, or in a hurry, I forget to double check it and in the end what could’ve been a great post turn out to be a rough draft that I’m not so proud of. So I want to share a few things that I think all blogger should take time to do before they hit the publish button.

Is your post title related to the post?

When you’re creating a title you want it to reflect your blog post, you also want it to grab your readers attention. Your title is the first thing that people are going to see, it’s the first contact they will have with your post and maybe your blog. You want your title to draw people in. Think of it as the first impression you’ll make on your reader, you want your first impression to be good right so people will remember it.

You can also go a step further and think about your SEO. Think about what people would search for on search engine. What keywords would they use if they were searching about something related to your topic.

Your first paragraph

With your title you already grab your reader’s attention, and now with your first paragraph you kinda want to reel them in. Your first paragraph should be something that people read and leave them wanting to know more about what you have to say. In your first paragraph you should have all the key phrases and words to make your readers want to continue read your post.

There’s a saying that a photos is worth words. Make sure that you’ve taken the proper photos before you hit publish or make sure that you’ve chosen the proper stock photos. You want something that actually relate to your post. Think about how people will share the photos. Should you include some text on the photo perhaps, is this photo easy to share on Pinterest, or Instagram…if the photo is the only thing that people are going to see you want to make sure that this photo will draw them to your post as well.

Polish your post

I think this step is super important and what I mean by “polish your post” is that you should go through your post a couple times and check for spelling errors, grammar errors, formatting errors, any HTML glitch…make sure that it’s all properly formatted before you publish.

I love to preview my post before I publish it in with WordPress it’s super easy to do. Don’t thing that what you see on your blog post editor is what you’re going to get on the finished version. By previewing your post you’re just making sure that everything is the way you want it.

Link your post to older Post

Read your post again and check if there’s any words, phrases, that can be link to a related post you may have previously written. This is a really great way to get people to stay on your blog longer and get to know you a little bit better.

So that’s my little list of what you need to do before hitting that publish button, hope this was helpful if you have any other tips or tricks feel free to share them in the comments section down below!

Love, Helene Xx

Great checklist! I use the Yoast plugin on WordPress and it always reminds me to do all those special little SEO things. It’s not much fun, but it definitely helps with traffic!
