Kat Von D Studded kiss Lipstick

I’ve always been a Kat Von D fan. Like most of us, I’ve discovered her on her first appearance on Miami Ink. There’s something interesting, inspirational, innovative about that girl…When she launched her makeup line in 2008, for me it was like heaven on earth. There was a couple of things I liked (all the eyeshadow palettes, the perfumes (siner was my favorite one…seriously why did you have to discontinue them Sephora why!!) and some I didn’t liked so much (like the foundation, I don’t  know why but I can’t seem to find the right colour for my skin tone ).

When Sephora announced ,in 2014, that they were revamping the Kat Von D collection, I didn’t know what to expect so I wished for the best, and so far ,I’m beyond happy with what they did.

So today I want to do a quick review on one of my favourite products of the line, the Studded Kiss Lipstick. On the Internet they are retailed at 21$, but in store (here in Canada) they cost something like 26$.

The packaging is to die for! It’s a gorgeous glossy black studded pattern. It feels very sturdy.I’ve heard that it was inspired by one of Kat’s favourite pice of jewelry (a black stud bracelet).

As far as I understand it, these are basically replacing the painted love lipsticks that were part of her line. This is supposed to be a better formula, longer wearing (10h), more comfortable, line of lipstick (oh and they smell like crème brûlée!). On 30 lipsticks, there are some shades, that are repeated from the old formula,( they are the same shade, but in the new formula) but then there’s also quite a few new shades as well, and what’s cool about the shade is that they are so unique, pigmented, and fun!

let’s talk about the colours I’ve been trying lately:

imageLovecraft: is a pinky- beige with a sort of mauve brown undertone in it (reminds me of MAC kinda sexy). It applies evenly and smoothly with virtually no tugging.

imageArchangel: is a beautiful burnt red, almost brick red but with a warmer undertone. I love the colour, it is so unique, like none of the “red” I’ve tried before!

imageBachelorette: is a brightened, pinky-red with almost warm undertones and a matte finish. It had fairly opaque pigmentation, and do last for 10h (but you might have to do some touch up during the day)

imageBauhau5: is a deep fuchsia color with red, pink, and purple tones ,that brightens the complexion and creates a lovely, alluring pout (it is sort of a lighter in-between the MAC Rebel lipstick ,and Melt Cosmetics Darkroom lipstick).

Prayer: It is a lovely blend of plum and brown (more like a deep merlot). It reminds me of MAC Amourous, but with less brown. Prayer is definitely my favourite of the 5, I wear it all the time!

I’ve heard many people complain about that these lipsticks. The recurring ones are that they don’t go on well, they’re dry and drag on the lips… but I have to totally disagree with those points. Especially considering that they’re matte lipsticks, I thought they went on feeling very soft and creamy, and I don’t find them drying at all. Here’s a little tip, if you have sensitive skins (like me) and you want to avoid the dry feeling, uses lip primer, it will add a light moisture, smoothes, and refines your lips.

Overall, I really do think that Kat Von D’s studded kiss Lipstick are just amazing, I really like the formula, and they deliver what they promised.
I would love to know if you’ve tried those lipstick, which colour is your favourite, because I do like them and I kinda want to grow my collection.

Love, Helene Xx
