The beauty world can be a bit overwhelming sometime. I remember when I first started being interested in makeup I didn’t really know what I was doing. I was trying my best to re-create whatever beauty trend that were in vogue at that time, but with my little to no knowledge on how to do the basics, it was quite a tedious task (I often ended up looking like Bozo the clown). I never let my lack of experience discourage me though. I always loved to learn new tips and tricks, I practiced, I got better and makeup is now what I do for living. I can fully understand that when you first start at something you can feel a bit clumsy, you don’t really know what to do or where to start. So today I thought I’d share some tips on how to feel more comfortable with makeup.
If you only knew how long it took me before my winged eyeliner game went from “preschooler with the Parkinson disease” to “Taylor Swift at the Grammy Awards” and I’m sparing you my “Amy Winehouse” phase. The more you’ll exercise yourself, the better you’ll get. You’ll develop your own tricks and your technique will improve.
Don’t be afraid to try different products
With all the products out there it’s best way to know what works for you and your skin type. For example when I want to try new foundation when it’s possible I ask for a simple (when it’s not possible I ask about the return policy), and then I try it at home. It’s the best way to see how the foundation turn on my skin, how it oxidize, if it’s a good match for my skin, and if I feel comfortable wearing. Don’t be afraid to experiment
What you may see on Instagram is beautiful, but there’s a whole lot more than the same “Kylie Jenner” look in the world! If you’re starting out with makeup don’t be afraid to step out of the box and try different things! Once you found a couple of looks you enjoy doing the most you’ll be more comfortable wearing them in public.
Be aware of who you’re buying from
There’s a lot of brands out there with a whole lot of different mentalities and philosophies. If you’re like me, you like to know where your money goes. I would never feel comfortable wearing makeup from a brand that I don’t support.
Make up is supposed to be fun don’t use it as a mask and hide your true colours. Whether you like wearing a lot of makeup or not it’s important to be yourself. Let’s be honest, no one really need makeup…you don’t need it to impress your friends, you don’t need it to impress your family, and most important of all you know needed to boost your confidence! To me makeup is the best way to express my creativity (it’s fun to feel like a Unicorn Queen from time to time), but it should never be the rock of your confidence. It may sound cheesy but you can not mask an ugly heart no matter the amount of makeup you use.
Remember to take off your makeup, and wash your skin at the end of each day. It’s quick, it’s easy and your skin will thank you. If you’re not sure what to use here are some of my favorite drugstore skincare products, and my all-time favorite night cream review.
